The better varieties of mangoes have exotic names like Fazlee, Langda, Gopalbogh, Himsagar,Aamropali, Harivanga, Khirsapat, Ashhwina, Khisanbogh, Kuapahadi, Lata Bombai, Foria, Bombai, Kohitoor, Laksmanbhog, Mohanbhog etc. Fazli, Lengra, Gopalbhog and Khisrapat are considered to be the premier varieties.
Bangladesh has exported 2,700 tons of mangoes this year, which is 1,000 tons more than in 2022. Last year, a total of 1,757 tons of mangoes were exported, according to a Ministry of Agriculture press release. Mangoes were exported to 28 countries in 2022, but this year the number has risen to 34.
Among the countries, the United Kingdom imported 1,256 tons, Italy 296 tons, Saudi Arabia 260 tons, the United Arab Emirates 137 tons, Qatar 111 tons, Singapore 55 tons, Switzerland 14 tons, Germany 70 tons, France 85 tons, Sweden 65 tons, Kuwait 218 tons, and Canada 40 tons.
According to data from the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), despite producing nearly 2.5 million tons of mangoes annually, the export quantity is significantly lower compared to production.
